School buses rumble through the southwest parking lot at the Museum of Science & Industry, dropping off and picking up hundreds of school kids in an average day. The Museum finally received funding, administered through CDOT, for much-needed redesign and rethinking of circulation and parking in this lot. CYLA introduced a new layout with a more efficient and innovative arrangement that emphasizes pedestrian safety. With input from the Museum, CYLA is designing precast panels for large service enclosure, as well as railings, compatible with Museum precedents, to channel school groups when crossing from dropoff aisles. Tree plantings will shade pedestrians and reduce heat gain. Permeable paving will help to reduce stormwater volumes. With Kudrna Engineers. Projected Budget: $2.5 million
